Coconut & Oat cleansing lotion


Ingredients:

  • 20g coconut oil

  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) castor oil

  • 7g candelilla wax or beeswax

  • 4 tablespoons (60ml) oat infusion

  • 20 drops vitamin E oil

  • 10 drops mandarin essential oil

Equipment:

  • Cup

  • Tea strainer

  • Bain marie or double boiler

  • Small glass jug

  • Small saucepan

  • Metal spoon

  • Thermometer

  • Stick blender

  • Bowl of cold water

  • Pump dispenser to pack your lotion

Instructions:

  1. Make the oat infusion: put 2 teaspoons of oats in a cup or bowl and pour 100ml of boiling water. Cover and leave to stand for 15 minutes so that the oats infuse the water. Strain through a tea strainer.

  2. Put the coconut and castor oils in bain marie along with the emulsifying wax

  3. Heat the oat infusion in a second bain marie

  4. Heat the oils until all is melted, and both your oat infusion and the oil mixture has reached the same temperature (75-80 C)

  5. Remove the oat infusion from bain marie

  6. Place the stick blender into the oil mix still in bain marie. Turn on to a low setting, taking care to keep the blender in contact with the base of the pan so as not to introduce too much air into the cream

  7. In a steady stream, pour the oat infusion into the oil mix while continually blending with the stick blender for about a minute

  8. Place the bowl or jug containing the lotion into the bowl of cold water and continue to blend until the mixture thickens slightly

  9. Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the vitamin E oil and essential oil

  10. Pour into your pump dispenser. If you're not adding a preservative, keep your lotion in the fridge and try to use it up in a week.
